Daisho Shrine and Daisho Kofun Group - A Journey touring sacred sites that transcend time

A journey that traces ancient faith and history that lies in Ibaraki Prefecture. On the way to visit the three shrines in the Eastern Province, we visited the Oo Jinja Shrine, located in Ishi City, close to Kashima City, and the Daisou Kofun group spread around it. This place is the origin of Kashima Shrine, and is a special sacred place that conveys the life of ancient powerful clans to the present day.

鹿島神宮の本宮 – 大生神社へ
鹿嶋市を後にし、車を走らせることしばし。 With a peaceful rural landscape spreading out, you will enter Iroshi City. Our goal is to Oo Shrine. This place is called the main shrine of Kashima Shrine or the former Kashima Shrine, and is said to have been enshrined here until Takemikazuchi Ogami (Takemikazuchi no Ogami) moved to Kashima Shrine.

Daiso Shrine (814 Daiso, Ichigo, Ibaraki Prefecture)

Daiso Shrine is quietly located in a secluded, quiet place. The surrounding area is filled with lush trees, and a dark, single-road road that continues even in the afternoon, leads to the sacred area. The solemn atmosphere makes my heart feel even before I step on my way.

The deity

Healthy God of Rai no Otoko (Takemi Kazuchi's Tagami)

According to the shrine, this area was once ruled by the Ofu tribe (Ofu clan), and it is said that when they moved from Yamato to Hitachi, they were enshrined as the deity of the clan. The place name Oo also comes from the Oo family (Oo family), who ruled this place.

The Ou clan, who can see various notations such as Dai, Tai, Wang, Tai, Iitomi, Otomi, Daisyo, and others, were a family of considerable power in ancient Japan. It is believed that the company built a major cultural sphere, centering around Oojo Shrine.

What is noteworthy is the heavenly god of Kashima (Kashima no Candy Wolf), which I introduced last time. It is said that this may refer to the heavenly god, the god of the Daisai clan.

Where the gods reside – In the grounds of Oogi Shrine
"Oogi Shrine, known as former Kashima, is a very divine place. There are many different spirits."

Fukutaro's words accurately express the atmosphere of this place. It's true that it feels not only quiet, but also that there is something special in it.

[Oogi Shrine/House Hall]

This shrine itself is the oldest shrine in the region, and its current main shrine was built in 1590 during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Sangensha Ryuzo (Sankensha Funagare-making) has a width of 6 meters and a depth of 7 meters. It is a large shrine building in the region, and is also the oldest shrine building in the region, and is designated as a cultural property in Ibaraki Prefecture.

[Oogi Shrine/Main Hall]

A former Kashima shrine, a god who was once present in this place, later became a quaint at Kashima Shrine. The place, wrapped in tranquility, is sure to be a special sacred place, just like Sakado Shrine and Numao Shrine.

What makes Ooe Shrine different from other shrines is that it is surrounded by ancient tombs. It's as if the energy of the ancient tombs scattered around the shrine is gathered at the shrine and filled with that energy. There is no doubt that it is a powerful power space.

Its sense of sacred place is different from other shrines. The spiritual power of the sacred site surrounds this shrine. I can't help but feel that way.

[Divine Tree]

The sacred trees towering in the temple grounds also symbolize their power. Its thick, powerful appearance extends towards the heavens is exactly the same tree where God resides.

Places where ancient powerful clans sleep ・ Daisho Kofun Group

Daisho Kofun Group (Shikamizuka Kofun: 890-2 Daisho, Ibaraki Prefecture)

After finishing my visit to Ooyo Shrine, I headed to the Ooyo Kofun Group, which is located right next to Ooyo Shrine. The surrounding ancient tombs flowing into the grounds of Ooe Shrine were very strong, and I naturally sought out my feet.

Everything, with its large area and open view, can be said to be a sacred place. You rarely get to walk around such a vast power spot.

It's refreshing and very pleasant. It is more like a sacred shrine than a grave.

There are no unattainable spirits or floating spirits. The spiritual power of the sacred land probably purified everything and became acquainted with Buddhahood.

This place is currently being developed as a park, with over 110 ancient tombs scattered around the world, including keyhole-shaped tombs, square tombs, and circular tombs. The overwhelming number of burial mounds is the largest in Ibaraki Prefecture.

The construction period is believed to be in the mid-Kofun period (5th century).

The people buried in these ancient tombs are believed to be the Ou clan (Taji and Iitomi clans), the Hosai clan of Daiso Shrine.

It has also been pointed out that each keyhole-shaped tomb faces Oojo Shrine and Kashima Shrine. This is probably the result of a combination of respect for our ancestors and faith in the gods.

Shikamizuka Tomb

Shikamizuka Kofun is one of the keyhole-shaped tombs that remain almost completely in the Daiso Nishi Kofun Group, with a total length of 58.1m, a front width of 32m, a rear circular portion of 34m in diameter and a height of 6m.

It is a shape called a single-ear keyhole-shaped tomb, and is characterized by its rear circular protruding particularly high. Was this unique burial shape a sign of the authority of those in power at the time?

We'll also walk behind the Shikamizuka Kofun. Surrounding the ancient tomb, there is a lush forest, and the silence gives it an even more sacred atmosphere.

Let's also take a look at the ancient tomb in the forest next to it. The ancient tomb that stands out from among the trees makes it seem as if it is sleeping for a long time.

The Daisho Kofun Group is a sacred power spot where you can take a leisurely walk. Please come and experience the spiritual power of this sacred place.
