Gods of Ise Province - 7. Tsukiyomi Shrine

Visit Tsukiyomi-san, who is standing in silence in search of healing for the soul
After visiting Ise Shrine, we returned to the bustling Ujiyamada town and drove back to the bustling town of Ujiyamada. The next one we head to is Tsukiyomi Shrine, Betsugu Shrine, the Imperial Grand Shrine. I heard that Tsukiyomi Shrine, located near Ise City Station, is a place surrounded by silence, away from the hustle and bustle. Attracted by those words, I drove out with the desire to soothe my tired heart and calm my soul from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Nakamuracho, Ise City. Following the navigation instructions, I walked through the narrow road and found a space surrounded by lush trees. That was Tsukiyomi Shrine. Once you pass through the torii gate and step in, the atmosphere changes completely. A cool silence engulfed the surroundings, as if he had wandered into another world. It's a quiet and calm space where you can hear the rustling of the trees and the chirping of birds. I felt my heart, which had been tense with the hustle and bustle of the city, gradually unleashed.
Tsukiyomi Shrine - a sacred place that heals the soul, standing in silence
As the name suggests, Tsukiyomi Shrine is a shrine dedicated to Tsukiyomi-san, the god who rules the moon. He is the younger brother of Amaterasu Omikami, and is also enshrined at Tsukiyomimiya, the Betsugu Shrine of the Outer Shrine. He has long been worshiped by people as a god who controls the phases of the moon and teaches the calendar.
The name, written as "reading the moon," has a deep meaning. The moon has been closely connected to people's lives since ancient times. The phases of the moon determine the rise and fall of the tide and the cycle of farming. Observing the moon, creating a calendar, and knowing the changes in seasons were essential elements in enriching people's lives and fostering culture. Tsukiyomi-son has been worshiped as a god who controls the power of the month and brings wisdom and fertility to people.
Tsukiyomi Shrine is not simply a place to worship Tsukiyomi-son. It is a special space filled with the mysterious power and silence of the moon. It is said that visitors can confront the emotions deep inside their hearts in the silence and heal their souls.
A sacred space woven by the four separate shrines
In addition to Tsukiyomi Shrine, there are four separate palaces located alongside Tsukiyomi Shrine: Tsukiyomi Aramitama Miya, Isanagi Shrine, and Isanami Miya. Each palace is enshrined with different gods and plays a different role.
Tsukiyomi Shrine: The main shrine dedicated to Tsukiyomi-san (Tsukiyomi-san). As a god who controls the phases of the moon and teaches the calendar, he brings wisdom and fertility to people.

Tsukiyomi Arami Tamanomiya
It worships Tsukiyomi-san's Aramitama (Tsukiyomi no Mikoto). Aramitsu refers to the rough side of God, and the prominent work. By worshiping the powerful and active side of Tsukuyomi-sou, it gives people energy and courage.

Isanagi Shrine (Izanagi Miya)
It worships Izanagi no Mikoto. Izanami-san is said to have created the Japanese archipelago along with Izanami-san. As God of Creation, he controls new beginnings and possibilities.

Isanami Shrine
It worships Izanami no Mikoto. Izanami is a god who, together with Izanami, is said to have created the Japanese archipelago. He is worshiped as the mother of life and as a god of safe childbirth and child-rearing.

These four separate shrines line up, Tsukuyomi Shrine is a sacred space that worships the various aspects of Tsukuyomi-son, as well as important gods in Japanese mythology. It is said that visiting each palace will benefit from different gods and heal both physically and mentally.
In the silence, face the gods
Visiting Tsukiyomi Shrine is generally performed in the order from right to right: Tsukiyomi Aramitama Shrine, Tsukiyomi Shrine, Isanagi Shrine, and Isanagi Shrine. First, at Tsukuyomi Ara Mitama Shrine, we receive energy from the powerful side of Tsukuyomi-soku. Next, at Tsukiyomi Shrine, we pray for the wisdom and fertility of the moon. Then, at Isanagi Shrine and Isanagi Shrine, they are given the power of creation and life.
We walked slowly along the approaching path and quietly clasped our hands in front of each palace. If you close your eyes and calm your mind, you may be able to feel the presence of the gods. They face and interact with the gods in the rustling of the trees, the chirping of birds, and the silence where only the sounds of their own breath can be heard.
Tsukiyomi Shrine is also known as a particularly quiet shrine around Ise Shrine. Unlike lively tourist destinations, there is a special space that lets you feel the flow of time slowly. As I walk along the approach, it feels like time has stopped.
For those tired of the hustle and bustle of the city, Tsukiyomi Shrine can be said to be a shelter for the soul. In silence, release your mind and face yourself. And, thanks to the blessings of the gods, they are healed both physically and mentally.
A mysterious power that soothes the fatigue of the soul
People who visit Tsukiyomi Shrine say "The soul is healed." What exactly is the reason for this?
For one thing, it is probably in the quiet space that Tsukiyomi Shrine has. In today's society where noise and information is overloaded, many people are looking for quiet. In this tranquility, Tsukiyomimiya gives us the opportunity to face and release the emotions deep inside her.
It may also be that the power of the moon that Tsukiyomi-sou possesses is having an impact. Since ancient times, the moon has been thought to affect people's emotions and spirit. The phases of the moon also bring about changes in the human mind, causing waves of emotions. Tsukiyomi-soku is said to have the power to control the power of the month and to heal and stabilize people's hearts.
Furthermore, the existence of the gods enshrined at Tsukuyomi Shrine is probably a factor that heals people's hearts. Tsukiyomi-san, Izanna-san, and Izanami-san are all gods that are closely related to people's lives. Feeling their presence and praying can help people feel safe and regain peace of mind.
Tsukiyomi Shrine is more than just a tourist destination. It is a sacred space where the gods reside, and a place with the power to heal the souls of people. Visitors can face themselves in the silence, take new steps, and take on the benefits of the gods.
At the end of the journey
After visiting Tsukiyomi Shrine, I got into the car again. My heart was calm and filled. My tired mind from the hustle and bustle of the city felt completely soothed.
During this trip to Ise, we visited many shrines, including Ise Shrine. At each shrine, we met different gods and received different benefits. The gods of Ise are closely connected to people's lives, and continue to heal and support the people's hearts.
For me, the journey through Ise became a journey of exploring the soul, not just a tourist trip. By meeting the gods of Ise and facing my own inner self, I have made new discoveries and growth.
I would like to come again someday to meet the gods of Ise. And then, I want to talk to the gods even deeper than this time. With this in mind, I left the land of Ise.
