This shrine enshrines Minamoto no Tametomo.

Speaking of Minamoto Tametomo, he was the eighth son of Minamoto Tameyoshi, and was known as Chinzei Hachiro, who became known as the master of the warlords, but he was defeated and captured during the Hogen Rebellion, and was displaced to Oshima.

*1 Chinzai Hachiro: Before it was dispersed to Oshima, it was also known as Chinzai Hachiro because it pacified the west side of the capital and Kyushu.

*2 Hogen Rebellion: At the end of the Heian period, the imperial court split into Emperor Goshirakawa and Emperor Sutoku due to the issue of succession to the throne and internal conflicts among the Regent family, leading to an armed conflict between the two sides. Emperor Sutoku was defeated, and Emperor Sutoku was displaced to Sanuki. The samurai were given the help of samurai to resolve the internal conflicts of the court nobles, and the samurai's presence increased, and this was one of the reasons why it led to the samurai government that lasted for about 700 years.

Speaking of Tametomo, the famous "Tsubaki Theory Yumibari Tsuki" by Kokutei Bakin is the one. When you think of Kutsutei Bakin, many people probably remember "Satomi Hakkenden", but the most popular item during the Edo period was "Tsubaki Theory Yumibari Tsuki." It was Bakin's success as a historical novel. Later, "Satomi Hakkenden" was written. However, according to this "Tsubaki Theory Yumibari Tsuki," Tametomo escaped from the crisis at a close call, and reached the Kingdom of Ryukyu, where Tametomo's son, Shuntenmaru, became the first king of the Kingdom of Ryukyu.

Also, the official history of the Ryukyu Kingdom, Chuzan Seikan also contains historical facts that "it is said that Minamoto Tametomo (Chinzai Hachiro) fled to Ryukyu and that child became Shunten, the founder of the Ryukyu royal family."

A document from Kenninji Temple in Kyoto, built by the Kamakura Shogunate, also states that "Minami Tametomo went to Ryukyu and became the founder of the nation."
