The origins of Susanoo Shrine, which carries eternal history
Susanoo Shrine was founded back to 795 during the Heian period. The person who opened this place was a man named Kokuchin, a senior disciple of Enno Ozunu, known as the founder of Shugendo. Kurojin set up a hermitage near what is now Susanoo Shrine and trained hard.

One day, Kurojin notices a mysterious strange rock on top of a small mound located on the east side of the hermitage. Then, one night in 14th year of Enryaku, a strange rock inside the mound lit up, and two gods appeared in the form of an old man.

The gods told Kurojin, "I am the Osamu Daijin and Asuka Daijin. If I enshrine you, I will exorcise the plague and increase my blessings, and will prosper this hometown forever."
